Aliante Casino and Hotel
Aliante Casino and Hotel, formerly known as Aliante Station, is a hotel and casino located in the Aliante community of North Las Vegas, Nevada. The property is owned and operated by Boyd Gaming. Originally announced in December 2005, Aliante Station was a joint venture between Station Casinos and The Greenspun Corporation, with an initial budget of $400 million to $450 million. Construction began in February 2007, and the resort was ultimately built for $662 million.
Info
After opening in November 2008, the property struggled financially. Station Casinos filed for bankruptcy the following year, leading to a transfer of ownership to a holding company. Despite initial financial losses, the resort’s profitability improved, and Station Casinos continued managing the property until November 2012, when it was rebranded as Aliante Casino and Hotel. The renovation, which included rebranding certain areas, cost $2.8 million. In 2016, Boyd Gaming acquired the resort for $380 million.
History
During the early planning stages of the Aliante community in 2002, North Las Vegas Mayor Mike Montandon initially opposed the inclusion of a casino. However, he was eventually persuaded by developers that it would be beneficial. In October 2002, a 40-acre (16 ha) site at the northeast corner of the Las Vegas Beltway and Aliante Parkway was designated for the future hotel-casino. The land was owned by The Greenspun Corporation through its American Nevada Company, a co-developer of Aliante.
On December 20, 2005, Aliante Station was officially announced as a partnership between Station Casinos and The Greenspun Corporation, the same team behind Green Valley Ranch. Station Casinos would be responsible for building and managing the resort, which was initially planned to feature 200 hotel rooms and 2,000 slot machines. The estimated cost was between $400 million and $450 million, with both companies jointly financing the project. Construction was set to begin in late 2006 or early 2007, with an expected opening in mid-2008.
By September 2006, rising construction costs and an expanded resort design pushed the budget to $600 million, with $30 million attributed to inflation in building expenses. Groundbreaking took place on February 22, 2007. In the months leading up to the opening, the resort received 1,000 job applications per week from mid-July through early October 2008. However, Station Casinos anticipated economic challenges due to the Great Recession. The target audience included Station Casinos’ existing customer base, the 6,500 households in the Aliante community, tourists, and visitors to the nearby Las Vegas Motor Speedway. In the end, the project was completed for $662 million.
