Galaxy Macau
Galaxy Macau is a casino resort located in Cotai, Macau. Construction on the project began in 2002, but its opening was postponed multiple times before Galaxy Entertainment Group announced on March 10, 2011, that the HKD 14.9 billion (USD 1.9 billion) resort would officially open on May 15, 2011. Designed by Gary Goddard, the resort currently features seven luxury hotels, each with a unique theme: Galaxy Macau, Okura, Banyan Tree, JW Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, Raffles, and Andaz.
Info
The first phase of the Cotai project opened in 2011, covering an area of 550,000 square meters. It included approximately 2,200 hotel rooms, a casino, and entertainment facilities, along with the Japanese-owned Hotel Okura and the Singapore-operated Banyan Tree Hotel. On April 26, 2012, Galaxy Macau announced the addition of JW Marriott and Ritz-Carlton hotels to the resort. Construction of these new properties began in late 2013, with gradual openings between 2016 and 2018.
Phase 2 of Galaxy Macau was projected to cost HKD 16 billion and would add 450,000 square meters of new resort space, additional hotel rooms, and up to 500 new casino tables. This phase was completed and opened on May 27, 2015.
A distinctive feature of the resort is its six gold-covered cupolas, positioned atop two towers. Four of these cupolas stand at 15 meters, while the other two reach 24 meters. They are equipped with a laser show system that projects beams into the sky every 15 minutes, reportedly making it the largest laser show in the world.
On December 15, 2011, Galaxy Macau expanded its entertainment offerings with the opening of UA Galaxy Cinemas and East Square, further enhancing its status as a premier resort destination in Macau.
