Okada Manila
Okada Manila is a casino resort and hotel complex located on the Entertainment City gaming strip in Parañaque, Metro Manila, Philippines. It was developed by Tiger Resort Leisure and Entertainment and opened in 2017 after seven years of construction, with a total cost of approximately ¥250 billion. The resort was designed to compete with Macau’s casinos and position Metro Manila as a regional and international gaming destination.
Info
Tiger Resort Leisure and Entertainment was granted a casino license for Entertainment City in 2008. Originally named Manila Bay Resorts, the complex was rebranded as Okada Manila in June 2016. Its opening was initially scheduled for November 2016 but was delayed due to weather conditions.
Okada Manila had a preview opening on December 21, 2016, and officially launched its casino operations on December 30, 2016. One of its key attractions, The Fountain, was unveiled on March 31, 2017, for invited guests before opening to the public the following day.
In 2017, Kazuo Okada, the founder and board chairman of Tiger Resort, was removed from his position by parent company Universal Entertainment Corporation, which accused him of misappropriating funds. Despite this, Okada maintained that he was the rightful leader of the company and pursued legal action against the board.
The COVID-19 pandemic had a significant impact on Okada Manila’s operations, leading to the retrenchment of 1,000 employees from its 10,000-member workforce in June 2020.
In April 2022, the Supreme Court of the Philippines issued a status quo ante order, directing Tiger Resort to revert to its 2017 board composition, effectively reinstating Okada. On May 31, 2022, Okada’s group took control of Okada Manila’s operations.
