Peppermill Reno began as the Peppermill Coffee Shop and Lounge, which opened on April 23, 1971, founded by lifelong friends Nat Carasali and Bill Paganetti. The business expanded into gambling in 1979, followed by the addition of a small casino and motor lodge in 1980. A significant expansion in 1986 introduced a convention center and hotel tower.

Planning for a major expansion project began in 1999, with construction commencing in 2005. The $400 million project included the Tuscany Tower, a 600-room addition that opened in December 2007.
Peppermill Casinos expanded beyond Reno with the Peppermill restaurant in Las Vegas, which opened on December 26, 1972. While the company has not opened a hotel or resort in Las Vegas, it has expanded with additional properties, including:
Western Village in Sparks, Nevada (1983)
Rainbow Club in Henderson, Nevada (1983)
Peppermill Wendover in Wendover, Nevada (1984)
